How can I upgrade my SmarterMail install to version 9.x - and will my existing leased license key work for SmarterMail 9?
Posted by J.T. Smith on 30 October 2012 12:04 AM

SmarterMail 9 was released on 01-12-2012. Since then two updates have been released on 01-13-2012 and 01-19-2012, bringing the version as of today up to 9.0.4401. We normally recommend that customers wait until 2 or 3 updates / fixes have been released for any new major version, or a full month, before deploying that version on production systems. Whenever you are ready to proceed with an upgrade to SmarterMail 9.x - it should be handled as detailed in the KB article found at the following location on the SmarterTools Website...

----------

----------

If you have a leased license for SmarterMail from ViUX, make sure that you have your license key on-hand when doing the upgrade, as you will need to re-activate the license key on the new version. Leased licenses continue to work for all future versions of the software at no additional fee, so the existing license key will still work as long as you do not change the server name or IP Address.

If your SmarterMail Server is also provided by ViUX, then we handle the upgrade on your behalf (for no additional charge). However if you have only a leased or purchased license key from us or elsewhere, then we charge a fee of $120 to $240 to handle the upgrade on your remotely hosted server.
